Individual Coaching

Don’t live in DC, Maryland, or Virginia (DMV) but still, need support with your self-care goals?

2121560882I mean, the DMV isn’t the only place…

… where women struggle to prioritize themselves!

You’re juggling multiple responsibilities daily but feel like you have no “me-time” to put on your schedule.

Responsibilities to others always go above responsibility for caring for yourself because you feel like you don’t have a choice.

“If I put myself first, I’ll let others down.”

You struggle with setting boundaries or saying no because you don’t want to be selfish and just want to help.

You continue adding to your plate though you know your plate is already too full.

Often overwhelmed by stress and anxiety, they’ve become a regular part of your life.

It feels like you can only escape the chaos of life by engaging in unhealthy behaviors (i.e., overeating, smoking, drinking too much, overconsumption of social media) to distract, numb, and self-soothe.

You’re afraid that if you don’t change sooner than later, you will experience the consequences of your current self-neglect and unhealthy habits.

If you only had accountable support in one or two focused areas that feel unmanageable… you’re having a hard time holding yourself accountable.

You’re not really interested in why there’s a problem. You just want to know what you need to do about it.

I have good news! Even if we can’t do therapy together because I’m not licensed in your state, I can still offer you support through coaching.

1202720635Coaching is NOT therapy.

WARNING: Coaching IS NOT and CAN’T BE a substitute for psychotherapy! If you are suffering from extreme anxiety, a mood disorder, or any other symptom crippling your ability to function in your daily life and you’re not in the DMV area, please seek a therapist that is licensed in the state in which you live.

But there are some similarities…

We’ll establish a positive therapeutic relationship that promotes your success.

You’ll have a dedicated space to connect with yourself and your goals.

You will receive support, encouragement, and accountability.

You will identify your goals and develop a strategic plan to reach them.

We’ll address any resistant/limiting thoughts and behaviors that emerge as your work progresses.

You will learn about anxiety and the importance of prioritizing your self-care.

You will receive homework and reflection assignments to complete in between sessions.

You will recognize your inner growth and have an increased understanding of yourself.

After we’ve concluded our work, you’ll have a maintenance plan to sustain progress.

1701293290Getting you to where you want to be…

As your coach, I won’t clinically assess or diagnose you.

And we won’t dive deep into your past to discover why you are struggling.

Instead, we’ll identify where you want to be and take specific actions to get you there.

Let’s Meet Karen*.

Karen is a 49-year-old married mother with two demanding teenagers. She has a successful career in HR and was recently promoted. While she welcomed this new opportunity, the increased responsibility added to her already stressful, busy life. Between juggling the needs and expectations of her family, along with her new position, Karen’s life was dictated by the needs of others. She felt like she had no time for herself, which was showing in her body.

Increased stress eating and poor sleep quality were taking their toll. Karen was gaining weight, experiencing lower back and joint pain, suffering from migraines, and was recently diagnosed with pre-diabetes. Karen knew that if she did not do something soon, her compromised health would hurt her and her loved ones. She came to me because she needed support in finding a way to create space to start caring for herself.

My coaching services did not explore her past or feelings about why her life is the way it is. Instead, I supported her by helping her gain clarity about what she wanted to achieve. Once that was identified, I guided her in creating one simple, concrete step she wanted to take to start heading in the direction she wanted.

Her overall goals and the fear that she may never reach them overwhelmed her. I helped her stay focused on the small step she agreed to take and held her accountable for developing consistency around this activity.

Karen’s first step was taking a15-minute walk outside while listening to soothing music during her work day. This helped her feel like she created space for herself, giving her body light exercise in the sun while listening to soothing music. Karen would keep a record of how often she completed this activity.

During each session, we would review the data collected. After celebrating the days she hit her goal, we would explore the days when the task was not completed. We would identify the thoughts and mindsets that got in her way. Collaboratively, we developed strategies for the upcoming week to increase her success rate.

Eventually, as Karen’s consistency strengthened, her confidence increased. Her initial daily self-care task became less arduous and more natural, allowing us to add another task to support her health goals and decrease her stress levels. She started growing an appreciation for herself and her body, recognizing that she had to care for herself in the same way she cared for her husband and children.

By the time Karen concluded her coaching sessions, she had reported a decrease in feeling overwhelmed by her stress, growing confidence in her ability to prioritize her self-care, and being in more control of her life. She even began to experience slight weight loss. Though she had more steps to achieve her ultimate goals, she trusted herself to know what to do and actually do it.

It would be an honor to work with you!
